There are some things that people can do themselves and other things that people should leave up to the professionals to do and not attempt to do themselves. Some examples of do it yourself projects may include car repair and simple maintenance while bodywork and major repairs should be left to the professionals. Although there is a great sense of reward and accomplishment form do things for ones self there are projects that should not be tackled by the untrained do it yourself amateur, such things as dentistry, practicing medicine or providing legal advice are not advisable, but also included in the list should be any profession that requires a certification or licensing.

It is said that a person who represents themselves has a lawyer has a fool for a client. The same can be said for those that take it upon themselves to sell real estate, specifically those that attempt to sell their own home. No person in their right mind would attempt to sell real estate on behalf of another person, nor would a neighbor call on an inexperienced and unlicensed person to sell their home, but every day, in every city and town throughout the country people do just that. The For Sale By Owner signs that adorn the yards of houses scattered throughout the nation are representations just the lawyer, of people that have fools for clients.

When it comes to buying and selling real estate there are many different rules and regulations that have to be followed throughout the home selling process. As part of their training real estate agents are required to attend a series of classes and pass both a state and national test to determine their ability before they are granted a license by a board of professionals that monitor the practices and methods of certified real estate agents.

Just as a lawyer is required to pass a bar exam or a doctor is required to pass a board of examination before they are licensed to practice their trade, real estate agents are required to take classes and pass exams to determine their competence and knowledge of their chosen profession. Real estate agents are also required to re certify their credentials periodically as their licenses carry an expiration date. Each year new classes form and thousands of licensed real estate agents are certified to assist with the legal ramifications of purchasing and selling real estate.

Because the entire industry is regulated it is baffling to see that some people think they circumvent the professional real estate industry and sell their homes by themselves. Surely these same people would not represent themselves in a court of law, or attempt to perform an outpatient surgery. Then why do they insist on practicing in a profession that they have not studied and do not full comprehend? Are these people aware that they have fools for clients?
