Working with home buyers and luxury home buyers many times I get a good idea as to what they are looking for in a home.  Below are just some of the home trends we see in real estate.

Wood has always been the fist choice of home buyers for flooring since it has a warm look but bamboo is coming on strong.  Bamboo grows 3 feet per year making for total growth years, four when it reaches its maturity whereas wood takes 60-70 years.  So, if green is what you are looking for, bamboo should be your choice in flooring over wood. Some things to know about Bamboo is that some species are as soft as pine and others are as hard as maple.  Moso bamboo is touted as one of the hardest with stranded bamboo being used in Asia in stores with a lot of traffic.  There’s bamboo and then there’s Moso bamboo.

Apparently, you get what you pay for.

Home Buyers today are looking at energy efficient homes.  Most are not looking for mega mansions but smaller homes that use less water and less energy.  Better insulation means smaller HVAC system which in turn saves energy on heating and air conditioning bills.

Surprisingly, House Hunters conducted a study of Men versus the Woman home buyers and found that men are not interested in workshops and home theaters but want luxury bathrooms, extra guest bedroom, attractive views and curb appeal.  Women on the other hand want the home office and outdoor entertainment areas.

Gourmet kitchens are still on the top of the list as well as large walk-in closets.  As a Sacramento Realtor who shows home buyers from Elk Grove to El Dorado Hills and Roseville I wish I had a for every man who looked at me during the home tour process and said, ” well, that’s big enough for her but where am I going to put my clothes.”  Closet space is always a big concern for all home buyers.

Sacramento home buyers are always interested in good neighborhoods, safety and schools.  From there Sacramento home buyers want updated kitchens with plenty of room for everyone in the family and guests to gather around during meal preparation.  And I’ve never had a Sacramento home buyer who doesn’t want a walk-in closet.  These are tops with my Sacramento home buyers
